According to the protocol signed between the Middle East Technical University and the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (“BTK”) on 21 December 2018, all authorizations regarding the allocation of domain names with the “.tr” extension were transferred from Nic.tr to BTK and the management of domain names with the “.tr” extension will be conducted by the BTK.
According to the recent announcement, the operations of the “.tr” Network Information System (“
TRABIS”) will commence on September 14, 2022 andpursuant to the Internet Domain Names Regulation, the domain names registered on Nic.tr shall be transferred to the operator who is authorized by the BTK. Nic.tr's services will be terminated after TRABIS commence its operations anddomain names that have not been transferred to an operator will be automatically transferred to TRABIS. However, transfer of domain names with the extensions “gov.tr, edu.tr, tsk.tr, k12.tr, pol.tr and kep.tr” will not be mandatory. In addition, “com.tr, org.tr, net.tr, gen.tr, biz.tr, tv.tr, web.tr, info.tr, bbs.tr, tel.tr and name.tr” domain extensions will be allocated undocumented while domain names with the extensions of “gov.tr, edu.tr, bel.tr, k12.tr, av.tr, dr.tr, pol.tr, tsk.tr and kep.tr” will continue to be certificated. Users may still use TRABIS Pre-Order Service for domain names with the extensions of "com.tr", "org.tr" and "net.tr" without certfication.
